Generative AI capabilities are wide-ranging and will impact departments across campus in unique ways. For the most relevant guidance and training resources, we recommend first contacting your unit, as they may be able to assist you in accessing training material specifically curated for your area.

UM-Ann Arbor

  • U-M GenAI Micro-Learning eLearning Courses
    Unlock new opportunities and stay ahead in AI with the University of Michigan's generative AI microlearning courses. Our convenient 10-20 minute MyLinc courses blend knowledge with innovation. 
  • Generative AI Workshop Series - ITS Instructional Support
    The ITS Teaching & Learning Instructional Support supports faculty and staff new to using online teaching tools, as well as those who are looking to explore deeper-dive topics. Topics include a Generative AI series, Canvas, Canvas external tools, and MiVideo.
  • Teaching with GenAI Self-Paced Course- Teaching and Technology Collaborative
    This course helps U-M instructors and staff consider the potential value of generative AI in education and equips them with skills to leverage generative AI in their teaching practice. Participants will learn to integrate AI tools into their teaching and curriculum, exploring strategies to enhance student engagement and foster critical thinking. The course covers essential topics, including the ethics of AI use, maintaining academic integrity, crafting effective prompts, redesigning assignments, and creating dynamic learning experiences.
  • Generative AI as a Learning Design Partner - Center for Academic Innovation
    In “Generative AI as a Learning Design Partner,” you will explore opportunities and applications for generative AI in supporting and enhancing learning design activities and tasks. You will learn how generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, can be used to create learning outcomes, draft course outlines, content, and assessments, and evaluate course design. You will also be able to determine the strengths and limitations of using generative AI in educational settings and develop strategies for engaging with educational stakeholders.
  • Michigan Online: ChatGPT Teachout 
    This Teach-Out introduces learners to artificial intelligence and explains how large language models and chatbots like ChatGPT work. You will better understand the ethical use of artificial intelligence, the implications of authorship, and how tools like ChatGPT might be utilized and regulated moving forward.
  • Teaching and Technology Collaborative (TTC)
    The Teaching and Technology Collaborative (TeachTech) supports the U-M community’s efforts to leverage technology for teaching, learning, and research. We provide training, opportunities and resources for the use of technology that is driven by purpose rather than tools. TeachTech members connect you to a wide variety of services and experts across all campus units through consultations, workshops, collaborations, and other activities.

  • Increase your awareness of generative artificial intelligence (5 minute video) 
    In this video, Laura McLeman, Director of The Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching, and Nick Gaspar, Director of The Office of Online and Digital Education, discuss the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) at UM-Flint. They explain the concept of generative AI and its potential to reshape teaching and learning, highlighting the challenges of identifying AI-generated content and the importance of responsible AI use. Additionally, they provide suggestions for designing assignments and assessments in the age of generative AI, emphasize UM-Flint's commitment to supporting faculty and students, and invite the campus community to engage in further exploration and discussion.
  • The Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching 
    The TCLT acknowledges and advances excellence in teaching throughout the Flint campus and across all modalities. The center assists faculty in their efforts to deepen knowledge of their current teaching practice, explore new methods for promoting active learning, and incorporate new technologies into teaching.
  • The Office of Online and Digital Education 
    ODE supports the design, development, and delivery of online programs and courses for the University of Michigan-Flint and connects you with the tools you need for instruction, learning, and support. As a “one-stop-shop” for online learning and teaching, ODE works directly with students and faculty to bring accessible, relevant, and high-quality education and training outside the confines of the classroom walls and beyond.
