Utilizing Maizey to Enhance Exam Preparation in SQL and Databases Course

UMSI - University of Michigan School of Information

Problem

Faculty member Michael Hess aimed to address the issue of repetitive questions during office hours before exams in his SI564 course on SQL and Databases. The goal was to reduce the workload on both students and faculty by providing a more efficient way to handle frequently asked questions and allow students to access information at any time.

Audience

The AI tool, Maizey, was targeted at students enrolled in SI564 - SQL and Databases.

Outcome/Impact

The implementation of Maizey significantly improved the exam preparation process for both students and faculty. By providing 24/7 access to answers for common questions, Maizey allowed students to resolve their queries independently, saving them time and effort. This also led to more efficient use of office hours, as students came with more specific and complex questions that required faculty input.

As a result, students were better prepared for exams, and the faculty could focus on more in-depth teaching and support during office hours. The use of Maizey enhanced the overall learning experience, making exam preparation more streamlined and effective. The AI tool's ability to handle routine inquiries also demonstrated the potential for improving resource management within the course, leading to a more productive educational environment.
