University Career Center Resource Assistant: Enhancing Accessibility and Engagement through AI

University Career Center

Problem

The University Career Center (UCC) serves as a resource for career guidance and professional development for U-M students and alumni. However, with a student body of over 40,000 and an ever-growing alumni base, increasing the accessibility and awareness of the center’s resources, events, and services has proven challenging.

Audience

Current University of Michigan students and recent alumni seeking information and guidance on career-related resources, tools, and events offered by the UCC.

Outcome/Impact

To address this challenge and adapt to an evolving landscape of student needs and information-seeking behaviors, the center has rolled out an AI chatbot powered by U-M Maizey on their homepage, providing a scalable, 24/7 solution. The introduction of the AI chatbot has been beneficial in a number of ways:

  • Enhancing the overall accessibility of the center’s resources for students and alumni by providing instant, user-friendly access to information at any time.
  • Personalizing the ways in which students and alumni interface with the center’s resources, events and services.
  • Providing a channel for straightforward and quick career tips on essential topics such as resumes, cover letters, and interviewing techniques.
  • Guiding the center’s administration on future enhancements, based on user feedback and changing needs, so as to remain a vital U-M resource for networking, career exploration, and career development.
