Classroom Prototype Design

U-M Dearborn - College of Engineering

Problem

When it comes to transforming an engineering process from technical terms to logic, U-M GPT has become a helpful tool. U-M engineering and computer science students turned to the summarization ability of GenAI tools. This allows students to focus on the essence of design thinking as it relates to system building and problem-solving at a higher level.

Audience

The primary users of this AI application are students within the College of Engineering and Computer science. However, the benefits of the tool’s applications can extend to any students and staff  who are interested in leveraging AI to enhance their understanding of logical and systems level thinking across their respective fields.

Outcome/Impact

  • Facilitation of Systems Thinking
Students were able to look at project development in a broader context, contributing to a better grasp of holistic problem solving.
  • Streamlined access to information
Using plain language prompting, students were able to find relevant information quickly to aid in their learning and development.
  • Improved quality of student output
Without valuable time being spent searching for syntax errors, time was instead used on project work development at a higher level.
  • Support of self-directed exploration of topics
Beyond course material, students were able to access in-depth information on any topic of interest.
