Using U-M Maizey to Draft New Pages for UM-Dearborn Academic Program Webpages

University of Michigan-Dearborn

Problem

The Office of External Relations at University of Michigan-Dearborn provides strategic support to the campus community in the areas of communications, marketing, and website management, which includes the administration of over 200 academic program pages. These pages provide resources and comprehensive overviews of each major, minor, graduate programs and certificates that UM-Dearborn offers. In 2024, the office partnered with an external writer to standardize the design across all academic program pages and thus create a template for future pages. However, the team still faced the following difficulties: 1) new academic programs routinely being developed; 2) limited marketing and communication resources; 3) content for these pages coming from disparate sources, creating inconsistencies with tone, style and branding guidelines

Outcome/Impact

The team turned to U-M Maizey, looking to create a tool that would draft content consistent in the tone and style existing pages, followed the academic program template, and met brand guidelines. To build this Maizey, the teams used data from all UM-Dearborn academic program pages; student organizations pages; the UM-Dearborn style guide; and the program page template.

Maizey was able to provide the teams with rough drafts, saving them time and effort by reducing the need for manual editing and formatting. Using these as starting points, the teams were able to further refine content to ensure accuracy and meet the college's expectations.
